Superman - 2025
I had a chance to see an early screening of Superman, which comes out this week. I’m not going to post a full review, because you can read those things anywhere. But I do want to make a key distinction.
Most comic book movies take comic book characters and put them into a movie. It’s a fun, over the top singular story with a beginning, middle, and end.
Superman takes the opposite direction. It’s a live action comic book. There are 7-10 stories that each resemble a singular comic. At times the movie is busy, with a lot going on, but it feels and story tells like an issue of a Superman comic.
I grinned like an idiot throughout the movie, smiled and had a blast. It is a movie that inspires joy and optimism. This Superman is a Boy Scout, who does good no matter the consequence.
The movie is such a refreshing change, and I’m so grateful for James Gunn for creating this story and this universe!
